No,don't worry that little Johnny has the reading/writing/math/vocabulary skills of a turnip, just don't let him have any sugary snacks.  PRIORITIES, FOLKS.

From FNN:"President Barack Obama is preparing to ask Congress to ban vending machines of sugary snacks and drinks. It could raise another fight over federalism.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said the administration will seek changes when Congress overhauls the Childhood Nutrition Act. It is a worthy goal to say the least.

However, there is a serious constitutional question over the federal government’s increasing role in dictating specific policies in local school systems. Often Congress conditions federal funds on states complying with such guidelines. The use of such conditions has long raised federalism concerns, though the courts have largely upheld such conditions (as opposed to direct legislative bans).

Obviously, states should not have to be told by the federal government to rid our schools of such junk food. It is beyond me how educators would choose small vendor fees over student health. However, states’ rights advocates complain that Congress has found a way around federalism protections by collecting more taxes than the federal government requires in order to return the money to the states with such mandates or conditions. There may be good reasons to consider the federalization of the entire school system to guarantee uniformity and excellence. However, that is not the system that we have. Schools (with police powers) are the touchstone of federalism principles. This could prove an interesting fight over not the merits but the means of the federal plan..."

I am with you on this one!  We have only healthy snacks in the vending machines all over the schools.  The teacher's room has a vending machine that has chocolate in the form of M&Ms, Snickers, etc.  It is the only vending machine for almost 2000 people that has chocolate.  Do you know how long the chocolate lasts?  We have nowhere to turn when that craving hits.

Also, the cafeteria cannot put out salt anymore.  I am a salter--had to bring it from home so that my food has taste.

Buy a box of chocolate bars and sell them at a tidy profit! Surely there must be one Republican in that school.

Why are the kids in the teacher's lounge?  Who runs that place?  But, since all the chocolate/sugar infused snacks are gone, are the kids now smarter?  No, well color me shocked.  Seems contrary to the study done by the administastion, doesn't it?  Maybe we need to take the chocolate/sugur unfused snack machines from all federal buildings; might make them a little smarter, reduce health risks, help lower medical costs for all of us.

What do you think?

What we have here is a failure to communicate.  My bad, I guess.  I should be clearer.

NO kids in the teacher's room.  I am talking about teacher chocolate cravings.

Just out of curiousity, WHO is teaching your class while you are on here?

Why should the teachers have chocolate if the kids can't?  Get ALL vending machines out of the schools, period.  Why do they need them in there, anyway?

It's called multi-tasking. This is my prep period and I am reviewing Chapter one of Slaughterhouse-five before I have to go in and teach in in a few minutes.

Afraid I'm wasting tax payers money?  Join the forum on NJ.Com!  The want to hang NJ teachers.

Come and teach my first two periods where I have autistic kids and brain damaged kids and at risk kids and just plain lazy kids, and a bunch of Italian kids and tell me I am wasting taxpayers money.  Haha!  I challenge  either you or Jeff to come in and teach either of my first two periods for a week.  The honors and AP kids are easy.

Jeez, pretty touchy, don't you think.  Oh, I get it, don't ask any questions.

Guilty conscience?  And, just WHY DO the teachers have vending machines?  RHIP?
